There are people who see an old tool or a piece of discarded farm machinery and see something that has reached the end of its life.

Jordan Sprigg sees what it could become next.

Growing up on a farm in the Western Australian Wheatbelt, Jordan developed an appreciation for the worn metal, old machinery and forgotten pieces scattered throughout regional Australia.

Today, he transforms those materials into extraordinary animal sculptures.

Every piece begins long before the first spark flies. There are drawings, measurements and small sculpted models as Jordan studies the movement, strength and character of the animal he is creating.

Then the work begins at full scale.

Inside his country workshop, retired tools, machine parts and farm scrap are cut, shaped and welded together. Materials that have already spent decades working on the land are given another life—this time carrying the story of where they came from.

Watching Jordan work is like watching an animal slowly emerge from the metal.

A curve becomes a shoulder.
A collection of gears becomes muscle.
Old machinery begins to move again.

His sculptures are impressive because of their enormous scale and detail, but their real beauty lies in their history. The marks, rust and wear are not polished away. They remain part of the finished work.

Jordan doesn’t simply make animals from metal.

He brings the history of regional Australia back to life in another form.

Photographing him in his workshop was an incredible privilege.
