The Beginning
Rolling Stills is studio-trained and road-tested. It began in a family portrait studio and grew on the road — built to document real Australia as it is, not as it's staged.
For two years, we packed up our life, put our young girls in a caravan, and followed the outback event circuit — from race tracks and rodeos to remote communities and roadside stops. We weren't just taking photos. We were building relationships, earning trust, and capturing moments that would otherwise go unseen.

Hi, I'm Ange Butler — the eye behind Rolling Stills.
Hi, I’m Ange—a photographer, creative director and storyteller with more than 15 years of experience capturing the people, places and work that shape Australia. Raised between Perth and a hobby farm in Quindanning, I grew up with one foot in the city and the other firmly in the country. That upbringing taught me how to connect with people from all walks of life—and gave me a lasting respect for hard work, regional communities and the stories that often exist beyond the spotlight. I’m equally comfortable in a boardroom, a paddock, behind the scenes of a major event or hundreds of kilometres down a dirt road. I can arrive with a camera, make people feel at ease and quickly recognise the moments that reveal something real. That ability to connect is at the heart of my work. For more than 15 years, I’ve photographed farmers, makers, families, artists, business leaders and national brands. Travelling Australia with my family deepened my understanding of regional life and strengthened my belief that the people who help shape this country deserve to be seen, celebrated and remembered. Today, I bring together photography, creative direction and lived regional experience to help brands tell stories with depth. I don’t just create beautiful images—I look for the character of a place, the purpose behind the work and the human story that gives a campaign meaning. Now based in Western Australia’s South West, I’m also a proud R.M.Williams ambassador, mum to two adventurous girls and wife to mural artist Jacob Butler. Together, we’re building a living record of regional Australia through contemporary photography, public art and storytelling. If you’re looking for polished imagery without losing the grit, warmth and humanity of the people behind your brand, that’s where I do my best work.

A documentary lens
We don't set up the shot — we wait for it. Real moments, captured with intention and patience.
A strong sense of place
Two years of regional fieldwork gives our work a rooted authenticity that travels with the brand.
Trust before camera
Relationships first. Photographs second. That order matters more than people realise.
Stories that feel real
Found in moments worth waiting for, and framed with intention — light, trust, and the right landscape.
Putting towns — on the map.
Commissioned to create a contemporary image library for the Lake Grace Visitor Centre, capturing the unique landscapes, local attractions, community spaces, and authentic character of the region. The project included professional photography across multiple Wheatbelt towns to showcase seasonal beauty, tourism experiences, and everyday life, resulting in a collection of imagery designed to inspire visitors and support destination marketing across print and digital platforms.
Wild hearts —
lasting love.

The flowers fade, the music ends, and the day passes in the blink of an eye. Your photographs are what remain. From quiet moments to the biggest celebrations, I document your wedding with intention, creating timeless images that allow you to relive not just how your day looked, but how it felt — for years, and generations, to come.
Coastal & regional —
families.

Families photographed where they actually live — beach walks at Dunsborough, the home paddock, long grass, the last light before dinner. Boots off or boots on, nobody told to smile. The frames they'll still love in twenty years.
From my lens to his wall.
A two-handed practice with my husband, Shakey. I find the face and the moment through the lens; he carries it onto walls — hand-painted murals, larger than life. The same people, twice told: once in silver, once in paint.
